About Our Therapy Team in Toronto
Therapy provides a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential space for you to talk and be listened to. Talking about your feelings, emotions, and experiences is healing. In addition, therapy is a place to learn effective coping strategies for managing different situations.
Our therapy team includes Registered Psychotherapists (RP) and Registered Social Workers (RSW) licensed under their respective Ontario colleges. The team is led by Dr. Kristin Heins (ND, RP), a somatic and trauma-informed therapist with over a decade of experience supporting hundreds of clients. Kristin brings a uniquely holistic lens to mental health, including her own lived experience managing anxiety and panic, and is currently completing a four-month trauma certification. She is also a published author (the Who Am I? social-emotional learning book series) and a recurring mental health podcast guest.

The Benefits of Psychotherapy
Scientific research shows that psychotherapy is an effective treatment for concerns such as depression, anxiety, stress and a range of other issues. Once you begin a course of therapy in Toronto, you may feel lighter, more connected to yourself and your loved ones, and better able to cope with life's challenges.
After two or three sessions, you will start to feel better by talking about your concerns and clarifying your goals. Typically, a series of six to eight sessions will be enough for you to deepen your connection to yourself and your loved ones, develop healthy coping strategies, and enable you to feel empowered. Complex and ongoing issues may require a longer course of therapy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Our Toronto therapists work with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress, grief, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and trauma. Yes. Our therapists work with couples navigating relationship challenges, communication breakdowns, conflict, and major life transitions. Couples therapy at Thrive provides a safe, structured space for both partners to be heard and to work toward a healthier, more connected relationship.
For many clients, six to eight sessions is enough to feel meaningfully better and develop lasting coping strategies. More complex or long-standing concerns may benefit from a longer course of therapy. After your first two or three sessions, you and your therapist will have a clearer sense of what timeline makes sense for your goals.
Our registered psychotherapists draw from a range of evidence-based approaches depending on your needs and goals. These may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based therapy, somatic approaches, and psychodynamic therapy. During your first session, your therapist will take time to understand what you're working through and recommend an approach that's the right fit for you.
Yes. Whether you're navigating conflict, communication issues, or a significant life transition together, our therapists offer marriage counselling in Toronto to help couples rebuild connection and work through challenges in a safe, supportive environment. Many couples find that even a short course of therapy leads to meaningful, lasting change.
Yes. Somatic therapy is a body-centred approach that recognizes the connection between physical sensations and emotional experience. It can be particularly effective for clients working through trauma, chronic stress, or anxiety. Our therapists integrate somatic approaches alongside other evidence-based modalities to support whole-person healing.
All of our therapists offer a free initial consultation so you can ask questions and find the right fit before committing to sessions. We also take the time to match you with the practitioner best suited to your specific needs. If your needs fall outside our scope, we're happy to refer you — after 15 years in Midtown Toronto, we have a trusted network of specialists to draw from. We have a 48-hour cancellation policy.
