Maintaining a Secure Attachment

Next event not yet scheduled  |  TBD

Join Thrive’s psychologist, Dr. Chelsea Sherrington, to learn how to maintain a secure and healthy attachment in your romantic relationship.
Bonding, connection, and attachment are central to the success of any marriage, romance, or partnership. Most of us start our relationships feeling madly in love and securely attached to one another, but if we aren’t careful (and sometimes even if we are), that close bond can give way to conflict, distance, or the sense that we living parallel, rather than shared lives. This free workshop will be an opportunity to learn about how to maintain a secure attachment in your relationship, so that your connection stays strong and so that you and your partner can learn to stand the test of time.
Participants are welcome to come on their own, or to bring their partner along. If you are not in a relationship now, but want to learn more about how to build a healthy relationship in the future, you also are more than welcome to join as well!

The Mindful Parenting Workshop

Thursdays November 2nd to November 30th for 5 weeks, OR Saturdays beginning November 4th to December 2nd for 5 weeks.  |  Thursday dates from 7:15-8:45 pm or Saturday dates from 1:15-3:45 pm

The Mindful Parenting Workshop is a 5-week workshop focusing on using mindfulness techniques to increase parenting confidence, reduce stress and nurture positive parent-child relations.  Join as we discuss how to be more present for your children and become a more effective parent.

What Is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness refers to moment-to-moment awareness of present experience without judgment. This increased awareness allows us to decrease our automatic reactions to feelings, thoughts and behaviors, while increasing our own capacities for self-regulation.

What Is Mindfulness Parenting?
Mindfulness is a natural complement to parenting.  It helps parents become more present for their children and their full range of emotional experience.  As well, mindfulness helps parents become less automatic in their responses to their children.  Finally, it teaches parents on how to slow down, with compassion, leading to more effective parenting and improve their own self-care behaviour.

Workshop Topics:
• Understanding Mindfulness and how to apply it to everyday parenting
• Understanding your own parenting style
• Identifying the link between parents’ own emotional stress and their child’s displays of stress (examples: sleep, eating issues and behaviour)
• Reducing emotional stress in parents and children through mindfulness exercise techniques
• Using mindfulness to help foster nurturing positive relationship
• Improving confidence and decreasing self-judgement and the judgement of others
• Facilitating connections with others in the parenting community
• Teaching parents how to guide their children to better regulate their emotions, respond thoughtfully rather than react automatically and to improve their own relationships with parents, siblings and peers
